In feng shui, it is believed that each section of your home corresponds to one of the nine major areas of your life.  This is represented by the feng shui bagua, ba meaning eight, and gua, meaning area. So bagua literally means eight areas.

The bagua map is an eight-sided, octagon shaped form surrounded by a center and identifies the nine major life areas and the corresponding areas of your home; and is an important tool in feng shui for implementing any feng shui cure.  By identifying which areas of your home correspond with the  major areas of your life, you are then able to introduce the appropriate feng shui cure into that area of your home thereby improving the corresponding area of your life.

The nine major life areas that correspond to your home on the bagua map are: Wealth & Prosperity, Fame & Reputation, Love & Relationships, Family, Health, Creativity & Children, Knowledge & Skills, Career, and Helpful People.

The bagua map also identifies the five chinese elements and different colors associated with each of the nine life areas, which is also useful to know when implementing any feng shui cure.
