Chinese Elements in Feng Shui

The five chinese elements that are used in feng shui are Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water.  These five elements are the basic forms of energy that are constantly being transformed from one to the other in the natural world.

In feng shui, the five chinese elements are important in bringing and maintaining harmony into one's life. There is a generating or productive cycle of the chinese elements and a destructive or overcoming cycle of the chinese elments.

The black arrows in the depiction below shows the flow of the productive or generationg cycle of the chinese elements: Wood generates or feeds Fire; Fire generates or feeds Earth; Earth generates or feeds Metal; Metal generates or feeds Water, and Water generates or feeds Wood.

The pink color arrows depicts the destructive or overcoming cycles of the chinese elements:  Wood overcomes or destroys Earth; Earth overcomes or destroys water; Water overcomes or destroys Fire; Fire overcomes or destroys Metal, and Metal overcomes or destroys Wood.

There is also a weakening cycle.  The relationships of Weakening are as followings: Wood weakens Water; Water weakens Metal; Metal weakens Earth; Earth weakens Fire and Fire weakens Wood.

From the above elemental relationships, we know how to strengthen or weaken the specific energy.  For example, if we want to activate/strengthen the Fire energy in an area of our home, we can choose items or colors that correspond to Fire Energy or Wood Energy because Wood generates Fire.  Supposed that we want to weaken the Fire Energy in an area of our home, we can choose items or colors that represents Water Energy or Earth energy since Water destroys Fire and Earth weakens Fire.

Each of the five Chinese Elements has its own characteristics associated with it.
